Little Sister Coffee Maker opened in September 2013 in a basement shop on River Avenue in Osborne Village, started by Vanessa Stachiw with Parlour Coffee’s Nils Vik. It now runs three Winnipeg cafés — Osborne Village, South Osborne and the Exchange District — and sells its own coffee line, including Golden Child and Stargazer espressos, Daydreamer decaf and rotating single origins.

There’s a reason it’s hard to put it into words.  It doesn’t ask too much of us, and yet, if you close your eyes for a second you can just feel the complexity.  A few light notes at the top, but kind of bass-y too, and what a finale! Give it up for the instrumental - right on cue. '(Instrumental)' features a long time favourite of Little Sister's - El Meridiano. It's is grown in a unique biological location nestled exactly between two national parks and draws water from the Río Hereje which in turn is born in the Andean moor ‘Paramo del Meridiano’, the coffee’s namesake. Brazil Doñas do Cafe
Brazil Doñas do Cafe
CA$24.75 / 12oz

The name speaks to the Little Sister in all of us: “Ladies of Coffee” brings together the lots of several female specialty coffee producers in Sul de Minas, Brazil. The beans are naturally processed - meaning after sorting they are left to dry on raised patios under the sun with the cherry intact. The process imbues them with a fruity cola body and rich mouthfeel. A citrusy bergamot note characterizes the finish, making this an excellent pour-over choice to get the day rolling! *if you’d like your coffee ground, add to notes indicating for which brew method you’d like it ground. Too late? Too much? Too - stop right there.  It doesn’t matter why.  You have a dream and we’re here to make it a tasty reality. Take a sip, let the aroma drift over you, and when it's done you’ll be able to drift off yourself. Indulge, Daydreamer. This coffee comes from a group of producers in San Agustin, Huila, Colombia. The decaffeination process is also done in Colombia naturally, using fermented sugar cane (ethyl acetate). We are very proud of this decaf coffee! It is as delicious as it is versatile - try it out as a filter coffee, or like we do as an espresso - you are bound to get good Source: littlesistercoffeemaker.ca (roaster’s own copy).

Golden Child Espresso

CA$23.50 / 12oz

Admit it: sometimes you have to play favourites. There’s that sharp citrus giving away to a bold mouthfeel and candy finish again - Golden Child hasn’t let you down yet.  You can keep it to yourself if you want... we know. Golden Child is from Tesfaye Bekele, a pioneer of coffee in the Guji region.  He established the Suke Quto farm in 2000, and has overseen its transformation into a community-oriented means of economic stability and environmental regeneration for the region.  This highly traceable, rainforest-certified coffee is grown by 171 outgrowers from the surrounding area. Honduras Finca Sendero de Luz

Sendero de Luz is an association of farmers from the El Playón region of Honduras. This combined approach to selling coffee frees members to focus on quality production, while the association facilitates administration and negotiation for fair pricing they might not obtain on their own. Honduras continues to expand as a specialty coffee origin, and we are excited to present yet another example. Expect warm notes of pecan and toffee evocative of coffee liquor, with a mellow tart finish. *if you’d like your coffee ground, add to notes indicating for which brew method you’d like it ground. Stargazer Espresso
Stargazer Espresso

Yeah it’s getting late, but then, that was always the plan. You needed a little kick to get you here.  It’s crisp + clear + powerful: a warm dark punctuated by tiny points of light.  Drink up, Stargazer. Stargazer currently features Las Nubes, a delightful coffee named after the clouds that crown the mountains and farms of the Cordillera Isabelia, a mountain range where the first large scale coffee in Nicaragua was grown. 20 Nicaraguan producers bring us this traditionally washed coffee, which is collected and dried at a beneficio processing station in Jinotega operated by Caravela, the import Source: littlesistercoffeemaker.ca (roaster’s own copy).
