Roasteries / La Torrefazione

La Torrefazione
Helsinki, Finland
Founded in 2009 when brothers Jens and Svante Hampf split their coffee ambitions in two: Svante built Kaffa Roastery, and Jens set out to become a café entrepreneur under the sister brand La Torrefazione. The two companies still work daily side by side — sourcing coffee together, developing roast profiles, and running joint training — but a shared philosophy runs through both: coffee quality comes first, without ever taking it too seriously, because in Finland a proper coffee break is a small act of care as much as it is a drink. La Torrefazione's own private-label coffees are bought at minimum Fair Trade+20% pricing, scored 80+ SCAA, and sourced with as few middlemen as possible between farmer and roastery — and are sold nowhere but its own cafés. 2 coffeesA collaboration of roughly 85 smallholder farms in the mountains of Cauca growing the Wuchii variety, supported by exporter Siruma through farmer training and quality visits. Cherries are washed, rested, then dried in greenhouse-style dryers for about 10 days, producing a clean, bright cup with orange, black tea and chocolate notes. Source: latorre.fi.
