Dash Coffee

Helsinki, Finland

Founded by Matthew Kern and Kevin Kainulainen, who met as humanitarian-logistics students at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki and bonded over the city's lack of quality coffee. Dash Coffee launched in August 2022 after a sourcing trip to Rwanda; Kevin exited the business in 2025, leaving Matthew as sole owner. The roastery sources exclusively from women-led farms in Rwanda, Kenya, and Costa Rica — each a named farm, SCA 86+ minimum — paying producers roughly 55% above Fair Trade minimums instead of buying through brokers. Roasted fresh in Helsinki and served at the Kaarlenkatu café alongside Zestii Kitchens. Winner of Best Espresso 2026 at the Helsinki Coffee Festival, plus placings at Ruokamessut 2025 and the Helsinki Coffee Festival 2025. Source: dashcoffees.com.
