DOCR – Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters
Ferndale, MI, USA
Dessert Oasis began in 2009 as a family-run dessert and live-music café in downtown Rochester, Michigan. Nathan Hamood, then 13, fell for the coffee side, saved up for a tiny rotisserie oven converted into a drum roaster and taught himself to roast — the business soon added "Coffee Roasters" to its name. DOCR now runs four cafés across Southeast Michigan (Rochester, Detroit’s Capitol Park, Royal Oak and Ferndale) and roasts daily at its Ferndale headquarters, which opened in 2023 and also houses its bakery, training lab and the DOCR Academy for public coffee classes. Expect single-origin pour-overs, espresso drinks and in-house cheesecakes and pastries, plus weekly open-mic nights.
