Goodboybob Coffee
Santa Monica, CA
Goodboybob is a Los Angeles-area coffee roaster founded by Erich Joiner — of ad and VR studio Tool of America — as an art project built around a single question: could coffee itself be considered art? That philosophy carries from sourcing and roasting through packaging and the café experience, treating every detail as a work of art while keeping the brand self-aware ("we take coffee seriously. Ourselves? Not so much."). Goodboybob roasts in small batches to highlight each bean's character, and its coffee has taken top honors at the 2024 Good Food Awards (Panama La Fortuna) and multiple medals at the 2021 Golden Bean Awards, including the Elite Category. Honey, orange, marzipan

Decaffeinated using a naturally occurring extract from sugarcane production (Sugarcane Ethyl Acetate process), which removes caffeine from green coffee while retaining aromatic and flavor compounds, for a sweet medium roast cup. Artwork by Mona Xia. Source: goodboybob.com.
Vanilla, gingersnap, simple syrup

Goodboybob's award-winning workhorse coffee — a medium roast focused on a sweet, clean, balanced cup that tastes great in milk, black, or as a straight shot of espresso. Bronze Medal winner at the Golden Bean Award. Artwork by Ben Tricklebank. Source: goodboybob.com.
Dark chocolate, lightly roasted nuts, red apple, butterscotch

A darker roast for aficionados, developed to the point of perfect balance — big in body with a sweet caramelized character, sourced seasonally for carefully harvested coffees with the chocolate depth and complexity to stand up to a slightly darker roast. Toffee sweetness, roasted nuts, deep chocolate

Grown in the remote, forested highlands of Oaxaca's Sierra Sur by a collective of smallholder Zapotec farmers, many under 30 years old, this medium roast highlights the rare Pluma Hidalgo Typica mutation unique to the region — clean, balanced, and deeply expressive of its Oaxacan terroir. Milk chocolate, Meyer lemon, plum

Named for "Nyampinga," meaning beautiful women inside and out, this rich, complex medium roast reflects its namesake with layered currant and chocolate notes. Artwork by Tina Dion. Source: goodboybob.com.
