About this coffee
Burka was founded by German settlers in 1899 outside Arusha and absorbed neighbouring Selian in 1991: about 1.3 million mostly shade-grown trees, with 127 ha kept as forest. Permanent staff are housed on the estate and paid at least 20% over the minimum wage, with nurseries, two primary schools and a clinic.
