Pachamama Coffee is a farmer-owned cooperative founded in 2006 out of a garage in Davis by Thaleon Tremain together with five founding smallholder farmer cooperatives — COCLA (Peru), Prodecoop (Nicaragua), Manos Campesinas (Guatemala), La Unión Regional (Mexico) and Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative (Ethiopia) — representing over 400,000 farmer-owner families. Head Roaster Theo Bernardos roasts on two small-batch US Roaster Corp roasters at the co-op’s roastery and fulfillment center in El Dorado Hills. Pachamama runs cafés in Sacramento, East Sacramento, Davis and Placerville plus a café inside the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op, alongside national wholesale and subscription programs. Winner of the SCA’s 2021 Sustainability Award (Best Business Model). Source: pachamamacoffee.com.
