City Bean Roasters
West Adams / Jefferson Park, Los Angeles, CA
City Bean Roasters has roasted coffee in Los Angeles since 1992, starting from a tiny Westwood storefront and growing into a wholesale and retail roaster that still runs vintage Probat roasters from 1926 and 1963. The company describes itself as democratically run, distributing 20% of after-tax profits to staff and giving 5% to charitable causes, with a stated focus on transparency, sustainability, and sourcing quality coffee at fair prices. Alongside its wholesale, private-label, and toll-roasting programs, City Bean operates a walk-in retail shop at its Jefferson Blvd roastery.
