Beneficio San Diego is the most modern mill in Costa Rica. It was established in 1888 and has been innovating ever since. Today Beneficio San Diego specializes in coffees from Tarrazú and Tres Ríos regions. The mill takes pride in striving for ever increasing efficiency and quality standards. At the same time, it has taken a leading role in working with producers to ensure good community relations and sustainable production. The Valle del Cauca is a critical swatch of land where natural resources, water management, and friendly environmental practices are keenly preserved by those who live and farm there. As one of Colombia’s two main biological conservation corridors, Cauca Valley is home to World Heritage-listed national parks, wildlife, and water sources that give life to the surrounding land. Ethiopia: Dry Process West Arsi Werka Nensebo Natural

Nearly 850 smallholder family farmers surrounding the Werka village deliver freshly picked coffee to Testi’s Nensebo washing station in the Nensebo district, located in the West Arsi zone. Each farmer has an average of 2-5 hectares of certified organic coffee and typically will manage and pick their own coffee and immediately transport it to the Nensebo station. In the natural process, cherries are floated in water as a quality check to remove “floaters” and then spread over raised beds to dry. Guatemala: Highland Smallholder Community Lot

This coffee is all about smallholder farmers. It is made up of coffee from 10 different smallholder farmers, each contributing anywhere from the equivalent of 4 - 8 bags of green coffee into the blend. All of these producers belong to one of three cooperatives in Huehuetenango - Marcelo Pablo, Viviano Pablo, Alfredo Ortiz, and Faustino Pablo al are members of ASODIETT in Todos Santos Cuchumatán; Antonio Tomás and Emelito Tomás (father and son!), along with Alan Ochoa are members of ASIAST in San Antonio Huista; and Higinia Perez, Santos Perez, and Antonio Ramirez are members of ASDEFLOR in Cha Source: keiaandmartynscoffee.com (roaster’s own copy).

Papua New Guinea: Eastern Highlands Peaberry Plus

Volcafe PNG is the only exporter to own a wet mill in PNG. Since its purchase in 1995, the Lahamenegu wet mill in the Eastern Highlands has been refreshed with brand-new machinery to take PNG cherries to the next level in quality control. While most smallholders wash and process coffee themselves and bring parchment to market, Volcafe PNG has the capability to buy in cherry and control processing consistency. The mill’s supply chain services smallholder farms within a 30-kilometer radius and receives freshly harvested cherries daily.
