About this coffee

An anaerobically fermented, natural-processed Red Catuai from the Ureña family's La Catarata lot at Café Rivense del Chirripó, grown at around 1,600 masl. Full-bodied and sweet, with the anaerobic fermentation adding distinctly layered character — fruit jam, cacao nibs, and caramel, with a velvety mouthfeel and restrained acidity that pairs well with milk. The family farm was founded in 2005 by Régulo Ureña and Isabel Rojas; their sons Ricardo, Mario, and Esteban now lead day-to-day operations. Cherries are handpicked at full ripeness, dried without water on raised beds and finished in mechanical dryers, with all processing, sorting, and packaging done on-site for full traceability. The farm sits in Costa Rica's Chirripó micro-region, between the Cerro de la Muerte range and Cerro Chirripó, where high altitude, volcanic soil, and cool mountain air build a complex, nuanced cup.
